Third Place

Third Place is a project focused around taking the Coney Island-style urban amusement park and designing it for 21st century audiences.

Today’s theme parks exist, to a large extent, in isolated bubbles, bringing world-traveling tourists and enthusiasts in to take destination-based vacations. What would happen if an amusement park pulled from its surrounding environment, playing to and engaging local culture and attracting local tourism? The intent of this project is to conceptually design a twenty-first century entertainment destination for an urban environment that will redefine how amusement parks are designed and experienced in the future.

Designing and building an amusement park in a diverse urban environment is not a new concept in the themed entertainment industry. However, this interesting new approach to entertainment in the big city could open up daring new opportunities for amusement parks to entertain every kind of guest every during single day of the year.

A component of this project was to develop a conceptual master plan and 3D rendering. Check those project pages out by clicking their highlighted links.

Part of this project was to actually plan out an ideal urban amusement park, and I chose Ontario Place in Toronto as an example site. Click the image to be taken to the master plan project. Satellite imagery courtesy Google Maps.
